UGC NET Economics December 2026: 100-Day Study Plan for Working Aspirants
Most UGC NET study plans assume you have six free hours a day. This one assumes you have a job. If you are a working aspirant targeting the December 2026 cycle of UGC NET Economics, here is a 100-day plan that fits around 9-to-6.
First, an honest date disclaimer
The official notification is expected between September and October 2026, and the December-cycle exam is typically held in late December or early January. At the time of writing, the exact timeline is not officially announced — verify everything on the official NTA UGC NET portal before you plan around it. What is certain: a 100-day plan started today lands you right at the exam window.
Who this plan is for
You work full-time, you can give 2–3 focused hours on weekdays and 4–6 on weekends, and you have finished (or are finishing) your master's. This plan is not about intensity — it is about never missing a day.
The 100-day plan in three phases
Days 1–30 — Foundation. One Paper 1 topic a day (teaching aptitude, reasoning, data interpretation, comprehension, higher-education system) plus one Paper 2 core unit a day, starting with Microeconomics and Macroeconomics. Make your own notes as you go — condensing is revision.
Days 31–70 — Depth. Statistics and Econometrics, Mathematical Methods, Public Finance, Money and Banking, International Economics, Development Economics and the Indian Economy. From this phase, solve topic-wise previous-year questions alongside each unit.
Days 71–100 — Revision and mocks. A full-length mock every 2–3 days, an error log you actually revisit, and targeted revision of your weakest units. Keep Paper 1 on a fast weekly revision cycle.
Paper 2 dense-topic priority list
Our PYQ analysis shows these recur year after year — cover them first and deepest:
- Asymmetric information and signalling
- Externalities and public goods
- Growth models (Solow / Ramsey–Cass–Koopmans)
- Mundell–Fleming and the impossible trinity
- Terms of trade
- Public finance — deficits, taxation, fiscal policy
- Money, banking and monetary transmission
- Indian Economy chronology — Five-Year Plans, the 1991 reforms, recent Economic Surveys
Weekend deep-work template
Saturday: one 3-hour block on your hardest topic plus timed PYQs on it. Sunday: one 2-hour block — a mock or a full revision session, then update the error log and plan the next week.
Test and PYQ cadence
Weekly topic tests from Day 30. Your first full-length mock around Day 60. In the last 30 days, one mock every 2–3 days. Solve at least 10 years of previous-year questions — twice, not once.
FAQ
Is 100 days enough while working a full-time job? Yes — with 2–3 hours a day, every day, and mocks through the final month.
Do I need coaching? Self-study can work, but structure and doubt support matter when time is scarce. The UGC NET Economics course (₹6,999, self-paced) includes 100+ recorded hours, 15+ mock tests and PYQ solutions.
How much time should Paper 1 get? Roughly a quarter of your study time — it is scoring and often neglected.
When will the notification come? Expected September–October 2026 — watch the official portal.
